Welcome To Eastside Community Baptist Church

(formerly Victoria Ave Baptist Ave & Emmanuel Baptist Church)
Belleville, Ontario Canada
God showed how much He loved us by sending his only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life.
This is real love. It is not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sin.
– 1 John 4:9-10 (NLT)

(If you are attending…please let us know! We are allowed to have 50 people in a service and need to know numbers please!)
Whether you are a first time surfer or a returning friend, we are glad that you stopped by our website!
a little history…
Victoria Avenue Baptist Church is proud to be loving Belleville from the heart of the city for since 1873!

In 1948, Rev. H.O. Eastman and other members of Victoria Avenue Baptist Church saw that there was a need for a Baptist outreach in the east side of Belleville where the population was growing. On June 18, 1949 a Sunday School was formed under the guidance of Rev. Eastman and later Rev. L. Keith Daniel and Rev. Gordon B. Woodcock. On the foundation of this Sunday school, Emmanuel Baptist Church was formed.

As the Sunday School accommodation became inadequate and Belleville continued to grow, it was decided that property would be purchased and a new congregation would be formed.

We believe that God wants us to show his love to all whom we come in contact with.  It is our desire to not only learn about His love, but we want to live it and share it.
we are merging!
In Spring of 2019, Pastor Richard (VABC) and Pastor Ray (Emmanuel) initially met to discuss the idea of merging VABC & Emmanuel’s congregations.
The realities of effective ministry in the east end of Belleville seemed to lead the mother and daughter church to come back together and use their combined resources for Kingdom ministry. This led to the  leadership teams of each congregation started to meet together last summer to prayerfully explore the possibility of merging the two congregations. In addition, each leadership team  held discussions within their own congregation. By January 2020 the decision to proceed with the merger had been voted on and approved by both congregations.
The official joining of the two congregations in worship was supposed to have taken place on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020 and we were eagerly looking forward to start our new ministry together at Easter…but…a virus ravaged the world and shut down our worship buildings.
WHAT NEXT?  When we are able to meet again, we will be worshipping in the Emmanuel building located at 68 Rollins Dr, Belleville, ON.
The Leadership teams are still meeting by zoom, and plunging forward as we look to the future.  Our goal is to become a NEW entity with the same faith history and belief.  We will become one with a new name and constitution that will prepare us to dynamically reach out to our neighbours, our city, country, and world!  We would appreciate your prayers for our exciting journey. Please check back for future information.
meet our pastor
Rev. Richard Smith
Pastor Richard has been serving in Belleville since January 2017.  He was born in Brockville, ON but very quickly moved on to live in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Kentucky, Indiana, Manitoba, Virginia, Missouri, Florida, and now back to Ontario.  He has been married to Korie-Lynn since 2004 and they are the parents of two boys. He is proud to admit to being the 4th generation of pastors in his family.
Pastor Richard holds a Bachelor of Church Music from Winnipeg Bible College (now Providence University College and Seminary) and a Master of Divinity degree from Providence Theological Seminary.
He enjoys music, having sung professionally with the CBC Hymn Sing program.  He enjoys cake decorating, cooking, musicals, and travelling and is a self-proclaimed “tacky tourist.”
As a pastor, he loves to see the lightbulbs go on as people realize the love that their Heavenly Father has for them and loves the fact that Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with all of his children!
